This book review examines Looking Awry by Slavoj Žižek as a key text that bridges ideology critique, psychoanalysis, and popular culture. Drawing on the theoretical framework of Jacques Lacan, the review highlights how Žižek employs examples from cinema and literature to illustrate the workings of the unconscious and the ideological structures that shape perception. Particular attention is given to the method of “looking awry” as a critical tool for revealing hidden contradictions within seemingly ordinary cultural forms. The review also briefly connects this approach to contemporary discussions on technology and social change, arguing that Žižek’s framework offers valuable insights into the relationship between desire, ideology, and modern forms of fragmentation.
