Post-disaster temporary housing units, rapidly produced to meet urgent sheltering needs, often persist as short-lived, energy-inefficient, and waste-generating systems. Consequently, they fail to fully align with the objectives of environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and social cohesion. In this context, the study aims to examine the applicability of circular design principles, treating temporary housing not merely as ephemeral solutions but as reusable, long-lasting systems that preserve resource loops. Accordingly, strategic interventions designed to minimize environmental burdens throughout the building life cycle are discussed within a theoretical framework. The research investigates the current state of post-disaster temporary housing, the inherent environmental challenges, and the alternative solutions offered by circular design; focusing on modular systems, material banks, flexible design guidelines, and the integration of renewable energy and water cycles. Within this scope, international precedents such as Shigeru Ban’s “Paper Log House” and the IKEA Foundation’s “Better Shelter” project are analyzed, and their applicability within the Turkish context is evaluated. Adopting a qualitative research methodology, the study employs case study analysis and comparative evaluation techniques based on pertinent literature. It scrutinizes the systematic transformation areas of circular design in post-disaster architectural practices, concentrating on structural and material-oriented approaches as well as energy, water, and social interaction cycles. The data derived from the research underscores the significant impact of demountable and transformable building systems on urban resilience. In this framework, based on the comparative analysis, a circular design-based model titled ‘Dynamic Shelter Cycle’ has been developed for post-disaster housing units. The proposed model provides a holistic roadmap based on resource efficiency by managing the logistical, operational, and post-disaster transformation phases of the units, offering strategic guidance for both designers and policy-makers.en_US
